"He will quiet you with His love."
I get asked occasionally why some pastors don’t teach about Bible prophecy or the end times. I like to remind people that some of Jesus’s harshest words in the Gospels were against the religious figures of His day. He chastised them not only for hypocrisy, but for failing to recognize the signs of the time (Matthew 16:3). Here are seven things to be thinking about this weekend. 1. Wisdom from Scripture“The Lord your God in your midst, The Mighty One, will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.”—Zephaniah 3:17 (NKJV) 2. Quote to Consider“Let me remind you once more that we live in a world corrupted by sin. Our churches must constantly remind us how to hear God and train us how to use our tongues. Even the most mature believer must keep vigilant to hear and be disciplined to speak. Sometimes, even when we give it our best effort, both our ears and our tongues fail us. When Jesus comes again, we will no longer hear with distortion, and our mouths will constantly break forth in praise of our God and King.” [from my book Look Up!] 3. Pay Attention to This NewsAfter their first face-to-face talks in year, Ukraine and Russia agreed yesterday to an exchange of 1,000 prisoners of war each at a future date. The talks were facilitated by Turkish officials and Ukraine asked for Vladimir Putin to be directly involved. But he declined, sending a Russian delegation instead to discuss a possible ceasefire. President Trump also was not involved—he sent Secretary of State Marco Rubio—but has said he wants to meet with Putin “as soon as we can.” President Zelensky of Ukraine said he also spoke to President Trump on a phone call and that Ukraine will keep pressure on Russia until Russia decides to end the war, at which point Ukraine will take the “fastest possible steps for real peace.” Still, the situation remains tense. 4. Comment of the Week“Thank you for sharing this perspective regarding President Trump’s visit to the Middle East, which has had me scratching my head somewhat lately. I can stop doing that now. You gave a very interesting answer to how this applies to Bible prophecy and end times.” 5. Praying for IsraelGreat is the Lord, and greatly to be praised Jerusalem is not just another city—it’s the city God has chosen, and its security will be increasingly contested in these last days: Lord God, we lift up Jerusalem, Your Holy City, before You. Fulfill every promise You’ve made concerning this sacred place. Protect her residents and the millions of pilgrims who visit each year. We pray for peace in every neighborhood, from the Old City to the newest developments. Guide the city’s development to balance preservation with progress. Let Jerusalem be a house of prayer for all nations as You intended. We declare Your sovereignty over every street, every building, and every heart within Jerusalem. Make her truly beautiful in elevation, a joy to the whole earth. In Jesus’ name. Amen. 6. Link of the WeekIn a custom-designed treatment at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and Penn Medicine, a nine-month-old infant became the first patient treated with personalized gene-editing therapy using CRISPR. He was born with a severe metabolic disorder, and the therapy used gene editing to correct a mutation in his liver cells. He got an infusion in February 2025 and has shown significant health improvements and reduced need for medication. The case shows the potential of personalized gene-editing therapies to treat rare genetic diseases. However, I’ve warned in the past that this is the future of medicine. I’m all for healing diseases and improving quality of life, but at what point do we cross the moral and spiritual boundaries of God’s sovereignty by modifying the blueprint of life itself? Today we might use gene-editing to fix a metabolic disorder. Tomorrow we are custom-ordering enhanced infants with the specific characteristics we choose.
